Since the beginning of may we have almost had a little of 20 inches of rain. Early in June one night alone we had a flash flood that poured 10" in a short period. Ended up washing out a lot of roads and flooding a lot of crops.

Cody has been really busy with all the farming and keeping up with the spraying. He also helped some local farmers with the combining of wheat. Now he is working on putting up our new shop. Corbin has been trying to keep up with his daughter who is growing like a weed. He has also been helping out Cody with the farming and doing some up keep at the lodge along with building some new furniture. Curt and Lorie have been helping the two boys out as much as possible. Curt has been in the sprayer quite a bit this year. Lorie is now currently working on pickling her beats and beans.

The bird population is looking really good. We are starting to see a lot of young birds turning colors and also seeing some birds that are only a few days old. This fall should also be a great season for duck hunting, it doesn't matter where you turn, you see a duck and little ones on every small piece of water. The crops are also looking really good for the upcoming harvest season.

We are getting really excited for the upcoming hunting season and looking forward to seeing everyone again as well as meeting new people. There will be some busy days ahead with trying to finish up the new shop and finish a couple of projects that Curt wants done.

Thanks and keep on checking up on us

Corbin Korzan

GrandSlam Pheasant Hunts - Manager

605-680-1777

Summer Weather

2011 Oct Hunt

http://youtu.be/BPj6bq4Octg

Testimonial

A few months back I had the privilege to hunt at GrandSlam Pheasant Hunts, and let me tell u it was an experience of a lifetime. There has been many hours put in to get the crops in with the rush of rain coming every week. Next we will be working on transplanting some trees in our larger groves where the cedar trees collapsed after the large amount of snow fall. Also when the ground dries up we will be working on getting the food plots and crops sprayed.
Our two yellow british labs (Bud and Jazz) are doing great up at training we are excited to get them back and start preparing them for the up coming season. The water around the local area is at it highest point in the last 10 years. Even though we are so wet, on our few days of having dry weather, Curt and Cody have been out in the fields spreading fertilizer and discing up food plots. Also with large amount of water this is great for wildlife in many ways. First and foremost, the wildlife shouldn't have to worry about finding water on hot days. Second, should keep a lot of bugs around for the small chicks to eat. Third, is that with the high water, ducks and pheasant will nest on the higher grounds, so this will keep their nest from flooding out and not having to re-hatch.

As of now the pheasants are starting to move into their breeding stage. All of the hens are bunched up in the tree groves and the rooster are really starting to stand their ground and fight over the hens. With the harsh winter coming to an end, we have noticed a small decrease in the population. Though with a great start for the Spring, it looks as if we are off to the start of a great year. Winter pictures will be posted soon.

Corbin Korzan

GrandSlam Pheasant Hunts - Manager

Testimonial

<font class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px; The 2010 season was an unbelievable event. It was great to see everyone back again and also great to see new customers as well.

For the year of 2011, we have had a rough winter so far. The amount of snow we have received is unbelievable, but on a good note the wildlife is doing great with the amount of left over feed from the food plots and the shelter belts give the birds great cover. Hopefully the rest of the winter will go well for us and the snow fall will be to a minimum.

Business at the lodge has been pretty steady. We are in the process of getting everyones dates filled in. We are down to a minimum of available hunting spots. So if your interested please make a quick call and we will try to see if we can fill a spot. Cody has been pretty busy as well, working on getting the farm equipment ready for this upcoming spring. Corbin and Ash have been pretty busy taking care of little Kinley. Corbin is also finishing up with working on all the Photo CD, DVD, Photo Book and Calendar orders. If anyone missed out on their orders please give us a call and we will be more than happy to help you out.

Also new to this year is GrandSlam Hunts has joined Facebook with all the millions of people online as well. We will be posting videos and other photos on Facebook as well. So if you are a member of the Facebook comunity and you find a photo of yourself or a friend you will be able to tag the photo to a profile.

As always we are looking forward to the upcoming year, so please keep up with as we make our journey to the upcoming 2011 Hunting Season.

RAIN RAIN and MORE RAIN

Well it has been quite the Spring. We have had large amounts of rain so far, with over 9 inches within the just the last two weeks. The wild life is doing great. Numerous amount of ducks stuck around through the winter and have hatched out there little ones and with all the water we have now, there should be some great duck hunting in South Dakota. Flooding is a big issue for many places throughout the state. The James river is at one of its all time highs and the Missouri rive is almost at full compacity from up on top of the Oahe Dam down to the corner of the state.

We are also starting to see great number of little pheasant chicks. With as much rain as we have had, the little ones have survived, with warmer weather and eating all the bugs that are around. CRP and pastures are as thick as they have ever been seeing green for miles. Most of the crops got in on time before the big rains came. For the fields that have been planted looks like we should have another great year of harvesting all around the country. The last couple of weeks Cody and Curt have been out on the 4'wheeler and ranger spraying fields, since the ground has been saturated with water. Some other farmers have had planes come in to spray their fields.

As for everything else, things have been going really good at GrandSlam Pheasant Hunts. Cody, Corbin, and Ashley have been staying with some of their own jobs and also putting in as much time as possible with the lodge. Curt and Lorie are holding the lodge together doing different odd jobs to keep the place looking good. If the weather stays on the right path, we should have a great 2010 pheasant hunting season. Only a few dates are open for this upcoming season, so if your still interested give us a call at 1-605-778-6789. I have attached a photo video of some the wildlife and water from this Spring, hope you enjoy.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Recently the last couple of weeks we have had some major flooding with all the snow melting and raining at the same time. The ponds and small lakes should have enough water throughout the hole year with lots of expected rain to come in the next month.

With the harsh winter ending, the pheasant are starting to spread out into pastures and open fields, enjoying the warm weather. We had a very small loss in the amount of birds taken from the winter kill. With spring ahead it wont be to long till you start seeing the roosters polishing up their feathers and strutting the roads for mating season. Its quite a site to see the roosters fighting all over and not budging off the roads. For the deer, they are back to their normal selves and roaming the area all over area.

Also, if any of you hunters keep up with twitter look us up, either grandslampheasanthunts or look up corbin korzan.

The wild life is doing good though. With all the food plots left over from this last fall they should have plenty of food. During these few cold months, the birds and deer bunch up by the hundreds. By now most of the bucks have lost their horns.

Around Christmas we had close to 15 in of snow with 40+ mph gusts blowing the snow all over. January became really cold with lots of ice creating power lines to snap and the poles to break in half. Some place north of town were without power for a 3-5 days.

The family is doing really well. Curt and Lorie are staying busy at the lodge keeping up on bookwork and lining up hunts for this upcoming Fall. Cody had a great duck hunt down in AR and Curt was unlucky with his cat hunt in WY, I will be publishing some of their photos on the blog here sometime this month. Curt is hoping to make it back to WY here this month sometime to have another shot at getting a big cat.

Hope everyone is doing well,
