Grand Slam Pheasant Hunts

Winter Events

This last January has been really brutal with ice and snow. The wild life is doing good though. With all the food plots left over from this last fall they should have plenty of food. During these few cold months, the birds and deer bunch up by the hundreds. By now most of the bucks have lost their horns.

Around Christmas we had close to 15 in of snow with 40+ mph gusts blowing the snow all over. January became really cold with lots of ice creating power lines to snap and the poles to break in half. Some place north of town were without power for a 3-5 days.

The family is doing really well. Curt and Lorie are staying busy at the lodge keeping up on bookwork and lining up hunts for this upcoming Fall. Cody had a great duck hunt down in AR and Curt was unlucky with his cat hunt in WY, I will be publishing some of their photos on the blog here sometime this month. Curt is hoping to make it back to WY here this month sometime to have another shot at getting a big cat.

Hope everyone is doing well,

What a Season

First of all I would like to thank every one who came out for our 2009 hunting season. We really had a great time seeing old friends come back and meeting new interesting customers as well. As a family we hope that everyone who came out had a great time while you were here, and are already looking forward to seeing everyone come back for the 2010 season.

For friends and followers who were not able to make it this last year, the birds numbers were great once again at the GrandSlam Pheasant Hunts.  As always each group that attended the 2009 pheasant hunting season limited out with all of their birds, even with some of the worst weather conditions we have come across in the last 20 years. Speaking of weather, this winter has been really brutal. We have had 3-4 different blizards, 3 ice storms and wind gusts up to 45-60 mph. Luckily enough we have yet to loose any power, but a lot of the surrounding areas have.  The wild life is hanging in there, getting shelter from some of the bigger tree belts. Most of the switch grass and food plots have been filled with snow, so we have been periodically hauling feed out for the birds.

I will be posting short photo/videos on the blog from the 2009 pheasan hunting season and will also try to get a bunch of photos of the wildlife and winter storms that we've been having. Hope everyone is doing well and had a great holiday.

Take care and keep in touch,

2009 Summer Update

With Spring and Summer flying on by, the Fall hunting season will be here before we know it.  Dogs flushing wild birds, hunters meeting up with old companions, guns blazing as the birds flush by the hundreds, CAN'T hardly wait.

This year we had a really great Spring, no bad weather, just enough rain when we needed it and a great carry over of birds. Though as you can tell in some pictures we did have some problems going through the low areas. As Summer came along, the crops started popping out of the ground and grew like weeds. Hopefully we will keep getting the rain throughout the rest of the year to produce a great crop/habitat for the birds.
With the great carry over of birds from this winter, we are seeing a substantial amount of young chicks. Hens with no less that 8 chicks to seeing some with up to 18. At the same time we are also seeing hens still on there nests. With the number of birds we are seeing so for this year, we are really excited to see what the season will bring.
We have been blessed this year with the great weather we are having. We have yet to reach over a hundred degrees and have had a good amount of rain. Unfortunately surrounding counties have had some really bad weather, with tornadoes, strong winds and damaging hail. Hopefully our weather will stay on the same path and provide us with a great hunting season.

We look forward to hearing from everyone, keep on checking back for we should be making more updates within the next month. Take care and hope all is doing well.

This picture was taken in early April north of the lodge. If you notice the Drake it is actually a cross between a Pintail and a Mallard. (No photoshop editing, real photos)

Good Winter

This past winter had went by really quick with little snow falling. The family is doing really well. Curt and Lorie had went on a buffalo hunt in early January south of Hot Spring, South Dakota. Cody went on his annual duck hunt in Arkansas and Corbin had stayed home working on the new business.  During the winter months we had also cleaned out the shop and insulated the inside. With the light winter we had the bird numbers are looking great for nesting season.

WHAT A GREAT YEAR

First of all I want to apologize for not posting up anything for the last two months. We have had one of the busiest seasons ever. Second, I want to thank all of the hunters and friends for everything they have done for us this last hunting season, without any of you we would not be where we are at today. I Can't say enough about the clients we have come through here from year to year, we truly appreciate all that you do.
This last fall was one of the busiest hunting seasons we have ever had, with bringing in close to 400 hunters and shooting right at 4500 birds. The bird population was incredible throughout the hole year. Late season hunting became better with the birds bunching by thousands do to the cold snowy weather that came through. The bird population is still up, with Curt going out  and dumping loads of corn to keep the birds healthy throughout the winter.
With the season coming to an end, I would like to remind everyone to make sure they call early to book or rebook your hunt for this 2009 Fall season. Also, try to keep in touch with us. We are always looking forward to hearing from everyone and keeping up with what you are doing.

Small reminder, I will be posting up pictures of every group hunt here within the next couple of weeks. If anyone hasn't received a picture cd or dvd that you had purchased please let me know and I will do my best to get it to you ASAP.

Thanks again for the the great year,
